Vincentian de Marillac Plans and Meetings

Some Morningsiders on the Stanton Ave. end of the neighborhood received letters over the past few weeks from Vincentian regarding a proposal for use of the Vincentian de Marillac facility (known by some as "the Villa") on Stanton Ave.

When the facility closed a few months back, the organization began searching for a new partner, and found a prospect in Community Human Services (CHS), an organization which operates around Allegheny County and assists people experiencing housing insecurity. Vincentian and CHS held a public meeting on Weds., 1/10, and several Morningsiders and MACC board members attended. Their plan is to utilize the space as a community home for individuals transitioning to more permanent living situations. Per Alicia Romano, CEO of CHS, who presented at the meeting, the intention for this program is to serve as a 3-6 month bridge for people they are helping, and they are seeking to help a specific population of individuals who have been stable in the shelter system and who are looking to transition to employment and more permanent living situations. This was a preliminary meeting for community engagement, but the organizations have put forth a zoning adjustment request which will be reviewed at the ZBA meeting on Thursday, January 18 at 9:00 a.m.. Their request is to update the usage from "Nursing Home" to "Community Home." One open question on this is whether the change in use code would apply in perpetuity, or only to the current applicant - we are waiting on additional details here.

We've engaged with CHS and will invite them to an upcoming MACC meeting, and they have assured us that they'll keep the community apprised as things move along.
