TreeVitalize Pittsburgh Accepting Applications for Spring 2025
Morningside homeowners have a unique opportunity to help grow and sustain our community’s green spaces. TreeVitalize Pittsburgh, a program dedicated to enhancing Pittsburgh's urban canopy, is now accepting applications for the Spring 2025 tree planting season.
TreeVitalize Pittsburgh is an initiative that works to improve Pittsburgh's urban forest by planting and maintaining trees across the city. The program aims to increase the city’s tree canopy, improve air quality, reduce stormwater runoff, and provide habitat for wildlife. TreeVitalize offers free or low-cost trees, along with planting and care support, to eligible applicants.
Eligibility
TreeVitalize will be accepting applications for free trees, with priority given to areas that are most in need of tree canopy expansion.
Homeowners: Residents of Morningside who have space in their yard for a tree are encouraged to apply. TreeVitalize Pittsburgh will work with applicants to determine the best tree species for each location.
Community Groups: Local schools, parks, and organizations can apply to have trees planted in public spaces. This is a great opportunity for green projects that will benefit the wider community.
Property Requirements: Applicants must have sufficient space for planting and agree to care for the tree in the years following its installation.
Why Plant Trees?
Trees provide numerous benefits to urban areas, including:
Improved Air Quality: Trees absorb carbon dioxide and filter out pollutants, improving the overall air quality.
Climate Resilience: Trees help mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing the urban heat island effect and absorbing excess rainfall.
Community Well-Being: Green spaces promote mental health and provide beautiful, shaded areas for recreation and relaxation.
Biodiversity: Urban trees provide vital habitat for birds, insects, and other wildlife.
The Spring 2025 planting season is the perfect time to join in this green initiative and make Morningside even more beautiful, sustainable, and resilient. With the help of TreeVitalize Pittsburgh, we can plant trees that will provide benefits to our neighborhood for generations to come.
