2025 Street Sweeping Begins April 1
Automated technology will collect license plate data to issue parking violation tickets to violators on street sweeping days
The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Pittsburgh Parking Authority are partnering to improve street sweeping operations and enforcement for the 2025 season. This year, Pittsburgh Parking Authority will utilize automated enforcement technology to enhance compliance with parking restrictions, ensuring streets are cleaned more efficiently.
The automated enforcement system will utilize smart cameras on Pittsburgh Parking Authority vehicles in order to catch license plate data from cars parked on streets set to receive street sweeping. Any parking violation tickets that are issued as a part of this process will be delivered by mail.
The 2025 Street Sweeping Program will begin on Tuesday, April 1, and continue through November 30. Residents are encouraged to check street signs on their block for scheduled sweeping times and parking restrictions.
“Our goal is to keep Pittsburgh’s streets clean and safe for all residents,” said Mayor Ed Gainey “By integrating automated enforcement, we can improve compliance with parking regulations, making street sweeping more effective and ensuring our neighborhoods stay well-maintained.”
Street sweeping plays a vital role in maintaining clean and safe roadways throughout the City. The program helps reduce debris buildup, improve water drainage, and enhance overall neighborhood cleanliness. The Department of Public Works provides different levels of service based on street type and usage, with business districts and main corridors receiving more frequent sweeping than residential areas.
