Need support for the upcoming draft and asynchronous learning days?

City Squeakers Asynchronous Learning Day Camp provides a structured, supportive environment where students can complete their assigned schoolwork with help from experienced teachers—then have some fun in the afternoons!

✏️ This program is designed with PPS students who will be working asynchronously during the upcoming NFL draft in mind. Tree Planting at El Paso Street

Tree Pittsburgh and Morningside community members will be out planting trees at the site of the El Paso Street landslide from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on April 25, and they’re inviting volunteers to help. 

Tree Pittsburgh will provide all the safety gear and tools necessary to get the work done, but the organization does encourage volunteers to wear boots, sturdy sneakers, long pants and long sleeves.

Registration is required. All new volunteers are required to fill out this form for Tree Pittsburgh.

As our outdoor spaces come back to life, please come to this event with any offerings from your garden: a plant you want to rehome, part of an overgrown perennial you want to divide, seeds you don't need, etc! We will gather for the first portion and swap for the second portion. Long term gardeners are welcome to share their wisdom and newer gardeners to learn and connect.

Traffic Alert

Heads up, neighbors! Due to free Mother’s Day admission heavy traffic is expected near the Pittsburgh Zoo on Sunday, May 10. If you live nearby, you might want to avoid the main arteries leading to the Zoo parking lot between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM to bypass the heaviest congestion.

🚗 Traffic & Parking Schedule

Due to the anticipated high volume of visitors, the Zoo will be operating on a modified entry schedule:

  • 3:30 PM: Parking lots will close.

  • 4:00 PM: Admission gates will close early to ensure those inside have enough time to enjoy the exhibits.

  • 5:30 PM: Zoo grounds will close as per usual.

If you're planning to visit the Zoo for Mother's Day, expect a much busier day than usual.

🎟️ Admission & Tickets

  • All mothers accompanying their children (of any age or generation!) receive complimentary admission.

  • Advance Tickets: Guests are highly encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance to skip the long lines at the gate.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS BI-ANNUAL YARD DEBRIS COLLECTION EVENT 

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works (DPW) Environmental Services bureau encourages Pittsburgh residents to set out their leaves, grass, brush, and branches on Saturday, November 8, for city crews to collect curbside.

Yard waste must be placed at residents’ usual trash/recycling spot by 6:00 a.m. Saturday, but should not be put out before Friday evening.

  • Leaves, Grass, Brush:
    Must be contained in brown paper bags and not weighing more than 35 pounds

  • Branches:
    Must be bundled with fiber twine or natural rope, in branch widths no more than 4 inches in diameter, and no more than 5 feet in length

Yard waste set out for collection must not contain any plastic bags, glass, rocks, blocks, bricks, dirt or gravel. Yard waste that does not meet the collection guidelines will be left at the curb.   


Year-round, the City of Pittsburgh operates three drop-off centers that accept yard waste during regular business hours. Fees may apply.

Spring is in the air and it’s time to give our neighborhood the glow-up it deserves. Grab your gloves (or use ours) and join the MACC community for our annual Spring Clean-Up. Every piece of litter we clear makes our neighborhood a healthier, more beautiful place to call home!

Pittsburgh Yard Debris Collection

BI-ANNUAL YARD DEBRIS COLLECTION   

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works Environmental Services announced today, when they will hold the first of their twice a year yard debris collection event. Residents are encouraged to place their yard debris e.g., branches, leaves, and grass on their curb for collection before 6:00 a.m.

DPW goal is to reduce the amount of valuable natural resources from being deposited into landfills. Yard debris collected from this event will be used to produce local compost. Some of which will be used to enrich landscapes throughout the city.  

“This is a great program for the city. It provides residents with a sustainable method to dispose of their yard debris and reduce their carbon footprint,” said City Recycling Supervisor Vanessa Reaves.  

In order for residents to participate, the following guidelines must be adhered to: 

  • Yard debris must be placed at your typical trash/recycling pick-up spot before 6:00 a.m. 

  • Yard debris must be placed in a brown paper bag and weigh no more than 35 pounds 

  • Branches must be bundled with fiber natural twine or rope, while measuring 5 feet or less in length and less than 4 inches in diameter 

Yard debris not in accordance with guidelines will not be collected. 

Yard debris being accepted at this time includes:   

  • Leaves 

  • Branches (less than 5 feet in length and less than four inches in diameter)  

  • Brush  

  • Grass 

Waste not being collected at this time includes: 

  • Plastic bags 

  • Metal or wire 

  • Rocks, blocks, bricks, and ceramics 

  • Dirt or gravel 

  • Glass, metal, or plastic 

Residents can also visit the following locations to dispose of yard debris:

Christmas Tree Recycling Pick Up

After the holiday season wraps up, local Girl Scouts step in to give Christmas trees a second life!

Girl Scout troops in the City of Pittsburgh will pick up your live Christmas tree to be dropped off at one of the City of Pittsburgh’s Christmas Tree drop off locations for the neighborhoods noted in the map. Trees will be mulched and not end up in the landfill and will be available for city residents for free in the spring.

Troop 52498 will pick up trees in Highland Park, East Liberty, Morningside, and Larimer on Sunday, January 11.

Tree Planting on El Paso

Join Tree Pittsburgh, Office of Councilwoman Deb Gross, and volunteers from Carnegie International Students Institute (CISI) to plant 50 native trees on El Paso hillside. This planting is part of the ongoing reforestation on the hill that connects Morningside and Stanton Heights, between El Paso and Duffield street. Tree Pittsburgh will provide equipment, training and safety gear. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended.

Volunteers will meet in the parking lot off of El Paso and Traverse Way.

Coffee, water and food will be provided.

Be a Safe Trick-or-Treater!

  • Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors.

  • Choose face paint and makeup instead of masks if possible to reduce the risk of obstructing a child's vision.

  • Have kids carry flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.

  • Make sure costumes are the correct size to prevent trips and falls.

  • If you are escorting children, please keep an eye on the road for vehicles.

  • Don't walk on the street. Stay on sidewalks and cross streets when safe at intersections and crosswalks.
